the pictures of both

but at the same time

all of the love letters

or the facsimile of one

flat or round, twisted and pinned

in the earth

some suggestive of dangerous things

that soften in tender mouths

like those of bright adolescents 

the thousand-and-first

is not merely indecent but apparently

precious, and that is the one

we resolve to try
